Sea Scout Ship #5111 does two annual fundraiser events: 
 

Christmas Ship Overnighter: By the first weekend in December the USCG Cutter Mackinaw or other buoy tender arrives in Chicago with a load of a few thousand Christmas trees from Cheboygan, Michigan or Sturgeon Bay, WI. Volunteer youth groups (Sea Cadets, Young Marines, and various Scouting groups) unload the trees onto waiting trucks to be brought to faith-based organizations to be donated along with clothing, gifts, ornaments, etc. to families who would not otherwise be able to afford a Christmas. Our Ship and Columbia Yacht Club hosts 250 of those Scouting youth and their adult leaders from a four-state area for an overnight lock-in. After dinner and a DJ party, they're assigned sleeping areas all over the club ship. In the morning we serve a hotbreakfast, pack them off for the unloading, and serve them a hot lunch when they return. The donations help fund our program.
